Nigeria’s telecommunications sector has sustained its growth, with active voice subscriptions rising to 173.54 million as of September 2025, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The industry report also shows a significant milestone in broadband penetration, which climbed to 49.34 percent. This represents nearly 107 million high-speed internet connections, bringing the country closer to its 70 percent national target.
The growth comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to expand digital infrastructure. The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, recently announced a major plan to deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable across the country, backed by a $500 million World Bank facility.
MTN Nigeria maintained its market leadership with over 90 million subscribers, followed by Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile. The sector remains a key contributor to the national economy, accounting for 9.2% of the GDP in the second quarter of 2025.
