A major traffic disruption occurred on Wednesday morning after a loaded Mack 40-foot container truck overturned on the Ojuelegba Bridge inward the National Stadium in the Surulere area of Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident, stating that the fallen container completely blocked the road while descending the bridge, obstructing all vehicular movement.
Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs Department, confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the accident.
Traffic Diversion and Evacuation
To manage the gridlock, LASTMA officials have implemented an immediate diversion. All vehicles coming from the Fadeyi and Onipan axis are being redirected through the Ojuelegba service lane to connect to Barracks and then Funso Williams Avenue.
“The Ojuelegba Bridge inward stadium has been temporarily closed to vehicular traffic pending the conclusion of the evacuation,” Adebayo stated.
He assured that LASTMA personnel are on the ground with equipment, actively coordinating emergency and recovery measures to ensure the safe and prompt removal of the truck and container.
Motorists are advised to avoid the affected route and use alternative paths until the bridge is fully cleared and reopened. LASTMA has promised to provide further updates on the situation.
