Nollywood actor Chijioke “Cjay” Nwokafor is dead, plunging the Nigerian entertainment industry into mourning.
CDA News Nigeria reports that his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, announced the news on Instagram on Wednesday. She shared videos of herself with the late actor.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Blessing did not disclose the cause of death. The announcement drew an outpouring of grief from colleagues and fans online.
Blessing also cancelled the release of her movie, Egusi Ogbono, in honour of the actor, who featured in the film. The movie had been scheduled for release at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. She withdrew it after a hospital confirmed his death.
The decision shows the bond among Nollywood colleagues. It also means audiences will not see the film on its planned date, and no new date has been announced.
As the news spreads, more tributes are expected from industry players. Cjay Nwokafor was known to many viewers through his screen work.
This is a developing story, and CDA News Nigeria will update it as verified details emerge on the cause of death, funeral arrangements, and the new release date for Egusi Ogbono.
