Northern Stakeholders Throw Full Weight Behind Tinubu Reforms, Demand Continuity Beyond 2027

Prominent Northern stakeholders, comprising influential traditional rulers, religious leaders, business figures, politicians, and civil society voices from across Nigeria’s 19 northern states, have thrown their full and unequivocal weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing economic and governance reforms — strongly advocating for continuity beyond 2027 in a move that significantly bolsters the President’s re-election campaign.

The stakeholders, speaking at a high-level engagement forum, commended President Tinubu for the courage and boldness required to implement far-reaching structural reforms — including the removal of the fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market, and the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue base and fiscal sustainability — describing these as necessary, patriotic, and ultimately transformative decisions that will benefit all Nigerians across every geopolitical zone.

They argued passionately that reversing or abandoning the reform agenda midway through its implementation by changing leadership in 2027 would be economically reckless, strategically shortsighted, and deeply damaging to Nigeria’s hard-won macroeconomic gains and international credibility.
“The reforms are working. The foundations are being laid. This is not the time to change the builder — this is the time to allow the building to be completed,” a senior Northern stakeholder declared to widespread applause.

The Northern bloc further called on President Tinubu to deepen his engagement with northern communities, accelerate poverty alleviation programmes, fast-track infrastructure development across the North, and intensify the military campaign against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping — which continues to inflict devastating suffering on northern populations.

The stakeholders’ declaration of support is a major political boost for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, given the North’s enormous electoral weight — a region that accounts for a significant proportion of Nigeria’s registered voters and has historically played a decisive role in determining the outcome of presidential contests.

Political analysts note that securing credible and broad-based Northern support will be central to President Tinubu’s re-election strategy, particularly in the face of the growing Obi-Kwankwaso NDC opposition alliance that is actively competing for Northern votes through Kwankwaso’s deep-rooted influence in the Northwest.

The APC’s re-election machinery is expected to build significantly on the Northern stakeholders’ endorsement as the 2027 campaign season moves into an increasingly intense and consequential phase.
