A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Abia State’s 2015 governorship candidate, Dr. Nyerere Anyim, has decried the alarming infrastructural deficits plaguing Abia South Senatorial District, describing the situation as heartbreaking after nearly three decades of democracy.
Speaking at his hometown, Agburuike Isi-ugwu village in Obingwa Local Government Area, Nyerere lamented the crumbling roads, erratic electricity supply, and lack of basic amenities that continue to stifle business growth and lower living standards.
“It’s disheartening that after 27 years of democracy, our people still suffer,” he said. “You cannot but weep for our people for a wasteful 28 years of ineffective representation in the senate.”
Nyerere noted that despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holding the Abia South Senate seat for 26 years and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for nearly four years, the district remains underdeveloped. He stressed that effective representation should attract tangible projects that directly benefit the people.
While acknowledging some state and federal lawmakers for their recent empowerment programmes, Nyerere insisted that much more is needed.
Declaring his intention to run for the Senate seat in 2027, Nyerere said, “A voice is saying, who shall I send? I’m here, ready to wipe your tears if given the ticket.”
He called on party delegates and constituents to support his bid to reclaim the mandate and deliver quality representation.
