A police officer has died and another was injured after a mixer truck lost control and crashed along the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh. The accident occurred at approximately 2:20 pm near the National Ecumenical Centre in the city’s Central Area.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that a mixer truck, driven by one Salman Usman of a construction company based in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and crashed at the location,” the statement read.
The two police officers were on official duty at the time. One officer died at the scene, while the other sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody, and other vehicles involved have been recovered for further investigation and safety inspection.
In the statement, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured personnel. The command assured the public of a thorough investigation.
