The Ogun State Government has sealed two fuel stations in Abeokuta for failing to provide functional public toilet facilities.
The affected stations are Conoil Fuel Station, Ibara, and Moore Fuel Station, Asero. The action was carried out by the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement for violating the Environmental Management Law (2006) and the Ogun State Public Health Law (2020).
Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, stated that Conoil had operated for decades without a public convenience, while Moore’s toilets were dilapidated and non-functional. He emphasized that providing such facilities is mandatory to combat open defecation.
“These two stations will serve as a deterrent to others,” Oresanya warned, noting that the taskforce is inspecting public facilities statewide. Conoil will remain sealed until it constructs a toilet, and Moore must fully rehabilitate its facilities.
The commissioner also disclosed that over 80 modern biogas public toilets have been provided across the state through partnerships, urging compliance from all businesses and event organizers.
