Ousted Osun Monarch Oloyede Sues Adeleke Over Stool

The dethroned Apetumodu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Oba Joseph Oloyede, has asked a High Court to stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from appointing a successor to his stool.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the monarch, who was convicted in the United States on tax fraud and money laundering charges, is the second claimant in suit no. HIF/50/2026 before the Ile-Ife High Court.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Oloyede, in a motion dated September 16, 2026, seeks an interlocutory injunction restraining the governor and other defendants from filling the stool until the main suit is decided.

He argues that he was never informed of any alleged infraction before the deposition instrument, reportedly signed on May 7, 2026, was issued.

The other claimants are Prince Oyewusi Adewusi, Prince Isaac Adewuni and Prince Abiodun Oyetoro, who sued for themselves and members of the Latimogun Royal Family of the Aribile Ruling House.

The defendants include the Osun Attorney-General, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Asalu of Ipetumodu, the Malefon of Ipetumodu and Ife North Local Government.

Proceedings stalled on Monday after counsel for the fifth defendant, Soji Oyetayo, said no hearing notice had reached him. Claimants’ counsel, O. Ogbewe, said the processes had been served.

Justice Dapo Adeniji adjourned the matter to January 21, 2027, and ordered fresh hearing notices.
