Oyo State Moves to End Fraud in Retirees’ Gratuity Payments

The Oyo State Government has announced plans to end fraudulent practices in the payment of gratuities to retirees, following reports of extortion by cartels posing as government officials.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation Prince Dotun Oyelade stated that some pensioners were being asked to pay 5–10% of their gratuities to “fast-track” payments—a malpractice he described as long-standing.

Oyelade said the state has increased monthly gratuity releases from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, enabling over 800 retirees to benefit monthly, compared to 250 in previous years.

He urged retirees to follow the official monthly disbursement system and report any suspicious demands to authorities.
