Police Urge NLC to Shelve Protest Over Security Threat

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to shelve its planned protest in Abuja on Tuesday, February 3, citing intelligence reports of infiltration threats by non-state actors.

In a statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh said the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shi’ites) and other groups plan to hijack the protest, posing risks to public safety and order.

The appeal follows an interim order by the National Industrial Court restraining the NLC, TUC, and their affiliates from embarking on any protest or strike pending the hearing of a motion filed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the FCT Administration.

The court also directed security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The case has been adjourned to February 10 for further hearing.
