The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $3.9 million technical assistance programme to boost electricity access in 13 African countries, including Nigeria.
The two-year initiative, tagged AESTAP Mission 300 Phase II, aims to help countries implement national energy plans and accelerate connections for millions of households currently without power.
Other beneficiary countries are Chad, Kenya, Ethiopia, Gabon, Mauritania, Malawi, Tanzania, DR Congo, Madagascar, Namibia, Uganda, and Lesotho.
The programme will focus on regulatory reforms, utility strengthening, data enhancement, and embedding expert advisers in national delivery units to monitor progress.
This funding follows an earlier $1 million Phase I approved in December 2025, bringing total AfDB support for the Mission 300 electrification goal to $4.9 million.
