The Chief Executive Officer of JX Group, Dr. Chibudom Jephthah Chigozirim, has described the death of former Army spokesman, Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd.), in captivity as a painful reminder of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
Reacting to the tragic development, Dr. Chigozirim said the incident should serve as a wake-up call for government authorities, security agencies, and all stakeholders to intensify efforts towards addressing the country’s growing insecurity.
According to him, the fact that a retired senior military officer could fall victim to kidnappers underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture.
He urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, and provide adequate support and equipment to security personnel in the fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes.
Dr. Chigozirim also called on citizens to support security agencies through timely information sharing and community vigilance, stressing that ensuring national security is a collective responsibility.
He extended his condolences to the family of the late Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all Nigerians mourning the retired officer.
“The death of Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar should not be treated as just another news headline. It must awaken us to the urgent need for decisive action to safeguard lives and restore public confidence in our security system,” he said.
The former Army spokesman reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted by suspected kidnappers, sparking renewed calls for meaningful security reforms across the country.
