Former federal lawmaker, Rep Sam Onuigbo, and his wife, Pastor Princess Onuigbo, have commended the women of Ibere for the successful hosting of their annual August meeting, describing the gathering as a strong reflection of unity and grassroots development in the community.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the couple extended their commendation to the women following this year’s edition of the meeting, held at Ibere in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, an event that continues to serve as a rallying platform for community development, cultural cohesion, and social welfare among Igbo women both at home and in the diaspora.
Onuigbo, who currently serves as President of GLOBE Legislators Worldwide, a global body of lawmakers focused on climate and legislative cooperation, used the occasion to reaffirm his continued commitment to the development of his Ibere community and Abia State at large. CDA News Nigeria reports that the former lawmaker, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, also previously served as a member representing the South East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), a role that saw him champion inter-regional development and reconstruction efforts.
In their remarks, the couple praised the resilience, industry, and organisational strength of the Ibere women, noting that platforms such as the August meeting remain vital in fostering peace, encouraging community-driven initiatives, and empowering women economically and socially. Pastor Princess Onuigbo, in her own commendation, applauded the women for sustaining the tradition of the annual gathering, describing it as an important avenue through which women continue to shape the development trajectory of their communities.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Onuigbos have remained consistent supporters of community initiatives in Ibere and its environs over the years, with the former lawmaker previously credited with facilitating infrastructural projects, including boreholes, market facilities, and electricity provision, aimed at improving the livelihoods of local women, many of whom are predominantly farmers and traders.
The couple used the occasion to urge the women to continue upholding unity, discipline, and cooperation as they pursue further developmental strides within their community, while pledging continued support for initiatives that promote the welfare of women and the overall progress of Ibere.
