Abuja, Nigeria — A Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has told the House of Representatives investigative panel that bank accounts opened for the alleged fake agency were created on the directive of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and carried zero balance.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the disclosure was made during the ongoing House probe into the controversial inclusion of the alleged fake agency in the federal budget. The CBN official explained that although the accounts were opened following an official request from the OAGF, no funds were deposited or processed through them.
The revelation forms part of the lawmakers’ investigation into the circumstances surrounding the creation of the agency and the opening of its accounts. The House committee is seeking to determine whether due process was followed and identify any individuals or institutions that may have breached financial regulations.
“The accounts were opened based on a directive from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, but they maintained zero balance and no transactions were carried out through them,” the CBN director told the panel.
The House committee is expected to continue its hearings by inviting additional witnesses and reviewing relevant documents before submitting its findings and recommendations.
