Appeal Court Sets Deadline for Rivers State Leaders
A special panel of the Court of Appeal has issued a direct warning to the Rivers State Governor and his Deputy regarding an ongoing legal appeal.
The panel, constituted to hear an appeal against a ruling by Hon. Justice F. Feberesima, has ordered the state’s top officials to file their Respondent Briefs of Argument within the court’s stipulated time.
The court stated clearly that failure to meet this deadline will result in the appeal proceeding solely on the basis of the Appellants’ Briefs. This means the Governor and Deputy could lose their right to present arguments in the case.
Legal experts note that such a default could significantly weaken the respondents’ position, as the court would only consider the appellants’ claims when making its final judgment.
The appeal challenges a prior ruling, details of which continue to be central to the political landscape in Rivers State.
All parties are now awaiting the next steps as the clock ticks on the court’s deadline.
