A Lagos court has sentenced a school teacher, Nwatu Isaac, to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil of El-Bossaa Nursery and Primary School, Epe.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, delivered the judgment on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The court found Isaac guilty of defiling the child on March 10, 2022, after the prosecution established its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge also ordered that Isaac’s name be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by the Lagos State Government.
CDA News Nigeria gathered from a statement issued by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on Friday that the order was made in line with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021.
The judgment follows a trial that lasted more than four years from the date of the offence. The register is designed to track convicted sex offenders and to protect children and other vulnerable people from further harm.
The case is a reminder to parents, guardians and schools of the need to keep children safe and to report any suspected abuse promptly to the police, the DSVA or other relevant authorities. In keeping with CDA News Nigeria’s editorial policy, the identity of the victim has been withheld.
