POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED TRICYCLE ROBBERY SYNDICATE IN RIVERS

PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA – Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested members of a suspected syndicate specializing in robbing tricycle operators and passengers across the state.

The arrests were made following a series of intelligence-led operations targeting the criminal gang, which allegedly posed as passengers to attack tricycle drivers, dispossessing them of their earnings and vehicles. Police spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringekoko-Koko, confirmed the development on Tuesday, stating that weapons and stolen items were recovered from the suspects.

“The command has intensified efforts to rid the state of criminal elements targeting commercial transporters. These suspects have been on our watchlist for some time,” she said.

The suspects, currently in police custody, are assisting with investigations. The police assured that they would be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.

Tricycle operators, popularly known as “Keke” riders, have frequently been targets of robbery and extortion in parts of Port Harcourt and its environs. The arrests have been welcomed by transport unions, who called for sustained police presence and patrols to ensure the safety of their members.

The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
