RULAAC Accuses Soludo’s Vigilante Outfit of Meddling in Civil Disputes

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has accused the Anambra State vigilante outfit of unlawfully interfering in civil disputes, condemning the arrest and detention of a 68-year-old resident in what it described as an abuse of power.

In a statement, the civil society organisation alleged that operatives of the vigilante group acted beyond their statutory responsibilities by involving themselves in matters that should ordinarily be handled through established civil and judicial processes.

RULAAC expressed concern over the reported arrest of the elderly resident, arguing that the incident raises serious questions about due process, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights in Anambra State.

The group called on Governor Charles Soludo’s administration to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest and ensure that vigilante operatives operate strictly within the limits of the law.

According to RULAAC, the growing involvement of security outfits in private and civil disputes undermines public confidence in the justice system and exposes citizens to arbitrary treatment.

The advocacy organisation further urged relevant authorities to guarantee the immediate protection of the rights of affected individuals and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.

As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Government and the vigilante outfit had not issued official responses to the allegations.
