…Three-Storey Structure in Wuse Zone 4 Had Been Marked for Demolition Hours Before
A three-storey building previously sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Department of Development Control collapsed on Monday evening in Abuja, triggering an immediate search and rescue operation by emergency agencies .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the building, located on Abidjan Street, Wuse Zone 3, collapsed around 7:45 pm on Monday. The FCT Police Command confirmed receiving a distress call and promptly deploying a response team to the scene .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the building had been sealed earlier on Monday by the Department of Development Control after it showed signs of distress, with occupants directed to vacate the premises . According to Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, a quit notice had been served on the occupants just hours before the collapse .
Emergency responders, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other relevant agencies, are on the ground conducting rescue operations. Three ambulances have also been stationed at the scene to provide emergency medical assistance .
As of the time of this report, no casualties have been confirmed, though search and recue operations are ongoing to determine if anyone is trapped beneath the rubble . The police have urged residents to remain calm and avoid the affected area to allow emergency responders to carry out their duties effectively .
