The Southeast Young Leaders Consultative Forum has condemned the reported killing of Nigerians in South Africa, describing the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the forum’s Secretary-General, Ms Odor Augustina, expressed deep concern over the deaths and called on South African authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The forum’s position comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of Nigerians and other African nationals living and working in South Africa, following a string of recent killings involving Nigerian citizens.
According to Augustina, the lives of Nigerians must be protected regardless of their location, stressing that violence against Nigerians should never be treated with indifference or allowed to go unpunished. She urged the South African government and law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to protect foreign nationals and ensure anyone found responsible faces the full weight of the law.
She also called on the Nigerian Government to remain actively engaged with South African authorities to safeguard the interests and safety of Nigerian citizens abroad, noting that justice for victims is essential for strengthening confidence in the protection of Nigerians living outside the country.
The forum appealed for calm while urging both governments to strengthen bilateral cooperation to prevent further attacks, saying it stands with the families of the deceased and all affected Nigerians.
