Tinubu Leads Nation in Honoring Fallen Heroes on Armed Forces Remembrance Day

President Bola Tinubu led the nation in honoring Nigeria’s fallen heroes on the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, assuring that their sacrifices for national unity and security will never be forgotten.

While Tinubu’s message was delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Abuja cenotaph, state governors including those of Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, and Rivers held parallel ceremonies, pledging continued support for military personnel and their families.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced a ₦50 million interest-free loan scheme for widows and dependents of fallen heroes.

The opposition ADC and PDP criticized Tinubu’s physical absence and called for improved welfare, funding, and equipment for the armed forces, stressing that remembrance must translate into tangible support for serving troops.

Peter Obi urged the government to build a nation worthy of the soldiers’ sacrifice through purposeful leadership and peace.
