…Dismisses Health Rumours as Politics, Lands in Lagos After Four-Week Europe Vacation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after a four-week working vacation in Europe, declaring himself fit and ready to resume official duties.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the President’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Tinubu dismissed speculation about his health, attributing the rumours to politics. “Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” he said. “Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain: I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready after his vacation, the President simply said, “I enjoyed my trip.”
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Jibrin Barau, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other dignitaries received him. A cultural troupe was also on hand to welcome him.
Why Lagos First
The Presidency said Tinubu chose to travel to Lagos first to honour the memory of Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. On Independence Day, October 1, the President is expected to attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
Strategic Meetings for 2027
CDA News Nigeria gathered that while in Lagos, President Tinubu will hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 general elections before returning to Abuja.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who received the President, expressed optimism that the break would translate into renewed energy. “We believe that the days he has spent resting will translate into more action this time around,” he said.
The Vacation Timeline
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for London, spending about a week there before travelling to Paris, where he spent the remainder of his stay. During his time in Paris, he held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron, met businessman Vincent Bolloré, and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for a $7 billion Gateway deep seaport project.
His return followed an extension of the vacation by a few days, with the Presidency previously announcing that he would return at the weekend.
