In a successful counter-kidnapping operation, Nigerian troops rescue three kidnap victims in Kebbi operation conducted over the weekend in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Defence Headquarters on Monday, troops from 8 Division, working alongside local vigilantes, stormed a bandit enclave along the Kebbi-Zamfara border following intelligence reports on the victims’ whereabouts.
The three rescued captives—two women and a 14-year-old boy—were abducted eight days ago from a farming community. They have since been reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.
“The troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing four bandits and recovering two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and three motorcycles,” the statement read.
No soldier was injured during the operation. However, authorities confirmed that the bandits’ leader, known as “Kachalla,” escaped with gunshot wounds. A manhunt is ongoing.
The Kebbi State Government commended the military for its swift action and urged residents to continue providing useful intelligence.
This rescue marks the fourth successful operation in the state this quarter.
