Trump Announces US Military Airstrikes Against ISIS in Nigeria’s Sokoto State

President Donald Trump has announced that the United States military carried out targeted airstrikes against ISIS-affiliated terrorists in Sokoto State, northwest Nigeria.

In a Christmas Day statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the operation as “powerful and deadly” and warned that it marked “the beginning of more of such attacks.” The strikes reportedly targeted terrorist hideouts in Sokoto forests.

This action follows Trump’s strong condemnation in November 2025 of the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions, when he vowed to strike terrorist locations directly.

While both U.S. and Nigerian authorities previously indicated that agreements had been reached on security cooperation, this announcement confirms direct U.S. kinetic military involvement on Nigerian soil.

“The United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote, adding that there would be “no place for radical Islamic terrorism” under his leadership.
