Trump Praises Venezuelan Opposition Leader for Nobel Peace Prize Gesture

US President Donald Trump has praised Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for presenting him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal during a meeting at the White House.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Machado as a “wonderful woman” and called the gesture “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”

Machado, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025, later told Fox News that Trump “deserves it.” The presentation came amid strained relations, as Trump has previously backed interim Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodríguez over Machado following the US military operation that ousted Nicolás Maduro.

The Nobel Committee states that prizes cannot be transferred, raising questions about the symbolic nature of the presentation.
