Two adult males have been found dead in the rubble of the Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island, following a devastating fire that swept through the 25-storey building on Thursday.
The bodies were recovered on Friday during ongoing search and rescue operations at the Marina axis, a LASEMA official confirmed under condition of anonymity. The first body was found around 11:03 a.m., and the second around 12:03 p.m.
The fire, which reportedly started on the fourth floor, spread rapidly to the sixth floor and other levels, also damaging nearby structures including the Old Lagos Central Mosque. A section of the building collapsed during the incident, trapping several traders beneath debris.
Emergency teams continue search, recovery, and safety operations to account for all affected persons and prevent further hazards.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been established.
