UK Government Issues 3-Month Ultimatum to Apple and Google Over Child Safety

The UK government has officially issued a strict three-month deadline to technology giants Apple and Google.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced the mandate at London Tech Week, ordering the firms to activate built-in safeguards that detect and block nude images on devices used by minors.

The policy requires smartphone and tablet manufacturers to deploy system-level nudity-detection algorithms. These tools will prevent children from capturing, viewing, or sharing explicit content.

Adults will remain unaffected but must pass an age-verification check to bypass the filters. If Apple and Google fail to comply by September 2026, the government vows to introduce swift legislation.

Tech bosses could face massive corporate fines or even criminal liability for non-compliance.

This aggressive move forms part of a broader crackdown under the UK Online Safety Act to eliminate online exploitation and sextortion targeting youth.
