LAGOS, NIGERIA – The United Kingdom government has announced sweeping increases in visa, residency, and citizenship application fees, with the new charges taking effect from April 8, 2026, significantly affecting Nigerians seeking to visit, study, work, or settle in the country.
The revised fee schedule, published by the UK Home Office, shows increases across virtually all immigration categories
. Nigeria remains one of the UK’s largest sources of visa applicants, with hundreds of thousands applying annually

Key New Charges:

Notable Exception: The fee for registering a child as a British citizen has been reduced from £1,214 to £1,000

Other affected categories include long-term visit visas (2, 5, and 10 years), Health and Care visas, Graduate Route visas, and temporary work visas. The High Potential Individual visa remains unchanged at £880
.
The increases take effect in less than two weeks.
