Scores of women from Umuariaga community trooped out en masse to demand justice from Abia State Governor Alex Otti over allegations that a suspected land grabber, allegedly operating under the cover of government agencies, is scheming to seize their only remaining parcel of land.
The angry women, visibly distressed, vowed to resist any attempt to dispossess them, noting that their community had already donated and sacrificed several portions of land for government use over the years.
In a swift response, Commissioner for Finance, Chief Ukandu Uwaoma, intervened via telephone, while former Ikwuano LGA Secretary, Engr. Ugochukwu Onwubali — also leader of Oboro Ward Labour Party — was dispatched to address the agitated women.
Engr. Onwubali appealed for calm, assuring the women that Governor Otti would not permit any individual or group to unlawfully acquire their land.
He further promised that a formal letter would be forwarded to the Governor, and that if government required land, alternative areas would be explored.
The women commended both Chief Uwaoma and Engr. Onwubali for their timely intervention, pledging continued solidarity and unwavering support for Governor Otti’s administration with one united voice.
