US Lists Five Marriages That May Not Qualify for Immigration Benefits

The United States has outlined five categories of marriages that may not qualify for immigration benefits, reminding applicants that marriage alone does not automatically guarantee eligibility for lawful immigration status.

According to CDA News Nigeria, U.S. immigration authorities said every marriage-based immigration application is assessed under existing laws to determine whether the relationship is legally valid and entered into in good faith.

Among the marriages that may not qualify are fraudulent or sham marriages, unions entered into solely for immigration purposes, marriages that are not legally recognised where they were celebrated, relationships involving unresolved prior marriages, and cases where applicants fail to provide sufficient evidence proving the legitimacy of their marriage.

U.S. authorities also stressed that applicants must comply with all immigration requirements and submit accurate documentation during the application process. Providing false information or fraudulent documents could result in denial of immigration benefits and other legal consequences.

CDA News Nigeria reports that prospective applicants are encouraged to carefully review official immigration guidelines before submitting marriage-based petitions to avoid delays or rejection.

CDA News Nigeria independently verified that the guidance reflects U.S. immigration requirements. CDA News Nigeria reports the news gathered from the report, while advising readers to rely on official U.S. immigration authorities for application procedures and updates.
