Vandalism at Umuariaga Health Centre Highlights Need for Public Infrastructure Security in Abia

The Umuariaga Health Centre in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, built and fully equipped by former Senator T. A. Orji, has been vandalized by unknown persons.

Residents report that the facility, which was recently completed and fitted with modern equipment and solar power, was “mercilessly” broken into, with valuable items reportedly stolen or damaged.

The incident has triggered calls for improved security at public infrastructures—including schools, power projects, and health centres—especially as the state invests in new facilities under the current administration.

Community members urged the state government to employ security personnel to protect public amenities, preventing sabotage and ensuring sustainability.
