The social media activist challenges the Nigeria Police Force to prosecute him, insisting he will only present evidence in court.
Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has dared the Nigeria Police Force to charge him to court over his explosive allegations that some police officers aid kidnappers and bandits . The activist insists he will not submit evidence to the police but will present it before a judge if criminal proceedings are instituted against him .
The development follows a formal invitation by the Nigeria Police Force for Otse to substantiate his claims made during the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt . At the conference, VDM alleged that officers manning checkpoints along major highways identify wealthy travellers and relay information to kidnappers to facilitate abductions for ransom .
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the allegation as “unsubstantiated and unfairly damaging” to the institution, while warning that sweeping accusations demoralise officers who risk their lives to confront criminals . The police invited VDM to produce evidence without delay, promising urgent investigation of any credible proof .
In a video posted on his Instagram page, VeryDarkMan rejected the request, questioning why he should surrender evidence that could form part of a criminal case against him . “I’m not going to be giving the police my evidence. Why would I do that? I would be charged to court, and I would turn down the evidence in court,” he said . He added, “Let’s meet in court. The evidence will be tendered there” .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that despite his criticism, VDM acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many police officers operate, urging the Federal Government to improve their welfare . He also released his “evidence number 1″—a video showing police officers being paraded—just hours after the police invitation . The Presidency has since berated the NBA for giving a platform to a “rabble-rouser” to make reckless accusations against security agencies .
