The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has asserted that mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in Rivers State does not require the support or backing of the state governor.
Speaking on Saturday at the inauguration of the Rivers State headquarters of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Port Harcourt, Wike praised the state coordinator, Desmond Akawor, for demonstrating strong capacity in mobilising support across the state’s 23 local government areas.
“We don’t need to have a governor to mobilise for Mr President; we don’t need it. We have all it takes to be on our own,” Wike stated. He highlighted the presence of senators, assembly members, council chairmen, and party officials from both the APC and PDP as evidence of a broad-based coalition committed to Tinubu’s re-election.
The minister reiterated that Rivers State remains a stronghold for the President, describing it as a “no-go area” for opposition. He also issued warnings to political actors who support what he termed “betrayal,” suggesting they would face similar treatment from their own successors.
