ABUJA, NIGERIA – Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed the appeal filed by the factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Kabiru Turaki at the Supreme Court, describing it as baseless and an attempt to distract the party.
Speaking to journalists after the PDP national convention, Wike stated that the party’s mainstream leadership is now fully constituted and that the legal challenge by the Turaki faction holds no merit.
“The appeal is baseless. There is no division in PDP. The convention has been held, and we have a new National Working Committee. Anyone still pursuing any court case is just wasting their time,” Wike said.
The Turaki-led faction had approached the Supreme Court challenging the legitimacy of the PDP’s leadership structure. However, the mainstream PDP has maintained that its processes are in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
Wike urged party members to focus on reconciliation and building a united front ahead of the 2027 elections, rather than being distracted by legal battles.
The Supreme Court is yet to set a date for hearing the appeal. Meanwhile, the PDP’s newly elected National Working Committee has assumed office.
