The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed optimism that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State is nearing a final resolution following a fresh intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike described Tinubu as the “father of the nation” whose counsel both he and Governor Siminalayi Fubara are obligated to heed for the sake of peace and progress.
He stated that the Rivers State House of Assembly would fulfil its constitutional duties, and expressed confidence that Governor Fubara would also take necessary steps to ensure sustainable peace.
Wike emphasized that the most important outcome is for Rivers State to move forward, thanking President Tinubu for his commitment to resolving the dispute.
The meeting at the Presidential Villa on Monday came amid impeachment moves by the state assembly against Governor Fubara and seeks to end months of political tension in the oil-rich state.
