BIRNIN KEBBI — At least 10 police officers and two civilians were killed during a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while 17 of the attackers were neutralised in the encounter .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred at about 9:25 am on Monday along the Rafin Makuku axis, where security personnel intercepted a heavily armed group of suspected bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the Kebbi State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson SP Bashir Usman, confirmed that at least 17 suspected bandits were neutralised during the operation, while four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were burnt . However, security forces suffered significant casualties, with 10 police personnel killed and two others sustaining injuries and currently receiving medical attention . Two civilians also lost their lives during the encounter .
The Police Command described the fallen officers as brave personnel who fought with exceptional courage and professionalism, making the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the people and the state .
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed profound grief over the loss, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the Force and the nation . The remains of the fallen officers have been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi, while additional security personnel have been deployed to sustain operations and pursue fleeing members of the criminal group .
