LAGOS, NIGERIA – Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for enhanced intelligence gathering and increased investment in technology to address the nation’s evolving security challenges.
The governors made the call during a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, where they deliberated on the worsening security situation across several states. In a communiqué issued after the parley, the governors stressed that traditional security approaches are no longer sufficient and that Nigeria must embrace modern technological solutions to outpace criminal elements.
“We must invest heavily in surveillance technology, drones, and intelligence infrastructure. The days of relying solely on conventional methods are over,” the communiqué read in part.
The governors also pledged to collaborate more closely with security agencies at the state level, committing to improved funding for community policing initiatives and the establishment of state-level technology hubs to support security operations.
President Tinubu, who hosted the meeting, reportedly endorsed the governors’ recommendations, reiterating his administration’s commitment to equipping security forces with cutting-edge tools.
The call comes amid rising insecurity across parts of the country, with recent attacks in Kwara, Sokoto, and the North-Central region heightening public concern. Analysts have welcomed the governors’ focus on technology as a potential game-changer in the fight against insurgency and banditry.
