The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations that its State Working Committee (SWC) is backing any aspirant for the 2027 governorship ticket.
In a press release signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the SWC described claims made by governorship aspirant Mascot Uzor Kalu as false, misleading, and lacking any factual basis.
The committee clarified that it has not endorsed any candidate for any elective position and is not constitutionally empowered to do so.
It emphasized that its primary responsibility is to provide a neutral administrative platform that ensures fairness, transparency, and credibility in party processes.
According to the statement, the only collective endorsement by the party at that level remains that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with national party directives.
The SWC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy under the leadership of State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, assuring party members that all aspirants would be given a level playing field during the primaries.
It also cautioned stakeholders against spreading unverified claims capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
While acknowledging that members of the committee may attend meetings convened by party leaders or stakeholders, it stressed that such participation should not be interpreted as endorsement.
The APC in Abia reiterated its focus on unity and credible processes as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
