The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Damilola Sonayon-James as the running mate to Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the party’s governorship candidate for Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at the APC Lagos State secretariat in Ikeja, where party leaders described Sonayon-James as a technocrat with vast experience in public administration and youth development.
“Damilola brings energy, competence, and a deep understanding of Lagos’ grassroots dynamics. She is the perfect complement to Dr. Hamzat’s vision,” said State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
Sonayon-James, a lawyer and former special adviser on civic engagement, thanked the party for the opportunity and pledged to prioritize education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment if elected.
Dr. Hamzat, who is seeking to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described his new running mate as “a woman of proven integrity and capacity.”
The opposition parties have yet to react to the APC’s unveiling. Analysts say the choice of a female running mate may appeal to Lagos’ large female voting bloc.
