Reps to Hold Emergency Sitting on 2025 Budget Extension Bill Today

The House of Representatives is scheduled to hold an emergency sitting today to deliberate on a bill seeking the extension of the implementation period for the 2025 Appropriation Act.

The proposed extension is expected to provide the Federal Government with additional time to complete ongoing projects and fully execute budgetary provisions that may not have been implemented within the original timeframe.

Lawmakers are anticipated to consider the implications of the extension on fiscal planning, project delivery, and public service obligations before taking a decision on the bill.

The emergency session underscores the importance of ensuring that critical national projects and programmes captured in the budget are not abandoned due to time constraints.

If approved, the extension would allow Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to continue utilizing the budget allocations in line with the revised implementation timeline.

The development comes amid growing concerns over budget execution and the need to maximize the impact of public spending on infrastructure, social services, and economic development.
