Former PDP National Youth Leader, Abdullahi MaiBasira, Resigns from Party

The Peoples Democratic Party has suffered another significant defection with the resignation of Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Hussaini MaiBasira, a former National Youth Leader and National Financial Secretary of the party.

In a resignation letter dated December 22, 2025, and addressed to his Ward Chairman in Minna, Niger State, MaiBasira described his decision as “painstakingly onerous,” citing long-standing loyalty but imperative “asphyxiating realities” that necessitated a change in his political course.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunities received during his tenure in various national roles but did not disclose his immediate next political move.

MaiBasira’s departure marks a notable development given his influence within the PDP’s youth, religious, and political structures nationwide. As a known supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, political observers widely speculate that he and thousands of his followers may join the African Democratic Congress, which is positioning itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resignation adds to the growing list of high-profile exits from the PDP, further deepening the internal crisis within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
