One person was injured on Friday as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) clashed in Ekiti State following allegations of vote-buying during the 2026 local government elections.
The incident occurred at a polling unit in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, when ADC agents accused APC operatives of distributing cash to influence voters. Eyewitnesses said the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in one injury. Security personnel intervened to restore order.
The APC has denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless propaganda” aimed at discrediting the party. In a statement, the ADC called for an investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
INEC officials at the scene confirmed the disturbance but said voting resumed shortly after. “We have documented the incident and will forward our report to the appropriate authorities,” an official stated.
Political analysts have expressed concern over the recurring issue of vote-buying in Nigerian elections, urging stricter enforcement of electoral laws. The Ekiti State Police Command said it has launched an investigation into the clash.
