A House of Representatives aspirant has dragged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the court, demanding N5 billion in damages over the alleged cancellation of the party’s primary election.
The aspirant accused the party of unlawfully scrapping the primary process after participants had invested time, resources, and efforts in preparation for the exercise.
According to court documents, the plaintiff is seeking financial compensation for alleged emotional distress, reputational damage, and losses arising from the disputed primary.
The legal action has added a new twist to the internal crisis within the party, raising concerns over transparency and adherence to democratic procedures in candidate selection.
Party officials are yet to issue an official response to the lawsuit, while political observers say the outcome of the case could have implications for future primary elections and internal party democracy.
The court is expected to determine whether due process was followed and whether the claimant is entitled to the reliefs sought.
