Tinubu Shakes Up Military Leadership, Appoints New Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has approved a major reshuffle of Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing new Service Chiefs in a move to strengthen the national security architecture.

The changes see General Olufemi Oluyede taking over from General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff. Other new appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Retired military generals have largely welcomed the change. They described it as a return to the traditional two-year tenure for service chiefs, which prevents stagnation and allows for career progression within the armed forces.

The President thanked the outgoing service chiefs for their service and charged the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them. All appointments take immediate effect.
