Umuahia, Abia State — APC chieftain Anyaragbu Chinweuba has responded to recent political exchanges involving House of Representatives member Hon. Obi Aguocha, questioning what he described as a double standard in comments about corruption allegations against former Abia State Governor Theodore Orji.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Chinweuba referenced the detention of Hon. Aguocha’s father, Dr. Onyebuchi Benson (O.B.) Aguocha, following the December 31, 1983 military coup. He argued that detention under the military government should automatically be interpreted as proof of corruption or criminal guilt.
According to information gathered by CDA News Nigeria, Chinweuba maintained that political actors should avoid celebrating allegations against opponents while overlooking similar historical circumstances involving their own families. He also noted that legal proceedings against Theodore Orji remain before the courts and have not resulted in a conviction.
“Dr. Onyebuchi Benson (O.B.) Aguocha, like many Second Republic political officeholders, was detained after the December 31, 1983 military coup. If detention is now being equated with corruption, how does Hon. Obi Aguocha distinguish his father’s detention from the allegations he raises against others? The law presumes innocence until proven guilty,” Chinweuba said.
Dr. O.B. Aguocha was formally charged on corruption was detented 1983 . The legal case involving former Governor Theodore Orji remains pending before the court.
