Umuariaga Community Union Releases Screening Results, Sets Stage for Presidential Election

The Umuariaga Community Development Union (UCDU) has officially released the results of its screening exercise for aspirants vying for various leadership positions, paving the way for a keenly anticipated election for the office of President General.

According to the Electoral Committee report signed by Secretary Kelvin Oji, the screening process was conducted in line with established guidelines, with a benchmark score of 50 set as the qualification threshold.

Out of the 22 aspirants screened, 11 candidates qualified while 11 were disqualified, reflecting what the committee described as a transparent and credible exercise.

The race for President General will be the only contested position, as two candidates—Kalu Kalu Macsweeny, who scored 54, and Chimobi Ikeokwo, who emerged with the highest score of 68—qualified to proceed to the polls. Other aspirants for the position failed to meet the required mark.

In contrast, nine candidates have been declared elected unopposed after meeting the qualification criteria without facing any opposition. Among them are Sunday Chimezie as Vice President General, Ogbulubi Chinyere as Secretary General, Lady Precious V. Ukaenye as Treasurer, and Enoch Emeka Nkem as Financial Secretary.

Others returned unopposed include Onyejiuwa Godswill as Provost, alongside leaders of the Men’s Wing such as Bernard Uche Ekpo (Chairman), Udochukwu Ogbulubi (Vice Chairman), Anthony Felix Kalu (Secretary), and Obioma Eluwa (Financial Secretary).

The committee noted that all qualified and unopposed candidates have been duly cleared and declared elected, while preparations are underway for the presidential election to determine the next leader of the union.

The development marks a significant step in the leadership transition process within the Umuariaga community, with stakeholders expressing optimism for a peaceful and successful election.
