UMUAHIA, NIGERIA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has dismissed claims that Governor Alex Otti holds any significant leverage over President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, asserting that the party’s growing structure in the state is more than sufficient to deliver victory.
In a strongly worded statement, Abia APC spokesperson Eric Ikwuagwu described Otti’s overtures to the Presidency as “political posturing and deceit,” arguing that the governor’s electoral base consists largely of supporters of Peter Obi, who remain opposed to President Tinubu.
“Otti cannot convert even a fraction of Labour Party supporters to back President Tinubu because they still identify as Peter Obi’s supporters,” the statement read.
The party boasted that its membership has grown to over 200,000, far exceeding the votes that brought Otti into office. It also credited the leadership of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for uniting the party and building grassroots capacity.
“The President does not need to negotiate with Otti’s Labour Party in Abia to secure victory in 2027. He has the fortified Abia APC,” the party declared.
The statement further criticized Otti’s performance, comparing it unfavorably with governors of neighboring states and insisting that the Abia APC remains the only political force capable of delivering Tinubu’s re-election in the state.
