MADRID — Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune has warned Barcelona manager Hansi Flick about the psychological challenges posed by José Mourinho, who returns to Real Madrid for the 2026–27 season.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Fortune, speaking to Tribal Football, cautioned Flick against falling victim to Mourinho’s reputation for mind games during upcoming El Clásico encounters .
“If he allows Mourinho to get into his head, then it’s done. It’s over. If Mourinho can find a way in, you’re finished,” Fortune stated .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the South Africa legend described Flick as a calm character but acknowledged that Mourinho is among the best at psychological warfare . He noted that Mourinho possesses sufficient talent within his squad to challenge Barcelona on the pitch.
“Mourinho will strive to divert attention away from his players while attempting to unsettle Barcelona, creating distractions and placing all the pressure on Flick and his team,” Fortune added .
Flick, who took charge of Barcelona in summer 2024, has enjoyed significant success, winning six of seven El Clásico encounters across all competitions and securing two LaLiga titles . Mourinho, appointed by Real Madrid this summer , will look to reverse the Catalan dominance and restore Real Madrid’s supremacy—a challenge he successfully managed during his first spell at the club more than a decade ago .
