The Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected currency counterfeiter in Aba and recovered seven bundles of counterfeit ₦200 notes.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the arrest was announced in a press release signed by DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, on October 9, 2026.
According to the police, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on actionable intelligence and raided a hideout in Obikabia community, Aba, where some criminal elements were allegedly producing counterfeit Nigerian currency. The police named the suspect as John Paul, a 40-year-old man.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the police said other members of the group fled during the operation, and that efforts are in place to arrest them. The command said the investigation is ongoing.
The statement did not say how many notes each bundle contained, whether printing equipment was found, or whether the suspect had been charged. The suspect has not been tried, and the allegations against him remain unproven in court.
The Commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents. He said Abia State would remain a no-go area for criminals.
The police have not yet said when the suspect will be arraigned.
