Verify Otti’s Projects, Shun Social Media Claims — APC’s Opah Challenges Abia Residents

UMUAHIA, Abia State — The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Chief Eric Opah, has challenged residents to independently verify projects reportedly executed by Governor Alex Otti’s administration rather than relying solely on claims circulating on social media.

Opah made the call on Wednesday during an event in Umuahia where women community leaders from Ikwuano and Umuahia declared support for APC candidates, including the party’s Abia Central senatorial candidate, Emeka Atuma.

He argued that residents should be able to establish whether projects announced by the government have been completed and are delivering the intended benefits.

“You do not need to import people to verify what has been done,” Opah said, according to the report, adding that Abia residents should judge government performance based on what they can see and experience.

His comments come amid an ongoing political dispute over the Otti administration’s infrastructure record, particularly its reported claim that 414 road projects covering 864.12 kilometres had been completed across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The Abia APC had previously questioned the figure and demanded that the government publish details of the roads for independent verification. The administration’s reported figures have therefore become a point of contention between the state government and the opposition party.

However, the competing claims require project-by-project assessment, including locations, completion status, contract details and evidence of public use, before independent conclusions can be reached.

For residents, the debate raises broader questions about transparency, accountability and the need for verifiable evidence in assessing public infrastructure spending.

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Opah’s challenge places renewed attention on how Abians evaluate government performance beyond political statements and online narratives.

CDA News Nigeria notes that independent verification of public projects is essential to informed civic debate, regardless of the political party making the claims.
